StudyBuds: Using Teachable Agents to Deepen Student Practice

Research and lived experience tells us that humans avoid thinking hard when they can. This helps explain why it's so hard to get students thinking during practice. It’s on us to inspire students to think, rather than coerce them. StudyBuds is a practice platform where students are empowered to teach AI characters, instead of being taught by AI tutors. They are challenged to address misconceptions and present evidence to characters to solidify their own understanding – a pedagogical practice known as learning by teaching.

Adam Franklin, former teacher and creator of StudyBuds, will walk through the platform and show how teachers can build their own modules or leverage HQIM materials from the shared library.
